His Victory is Your Victory
Revelation 19
At Rev. 18:20 there is a clear directive given to believers to rejoice over the fall of the Great City (Rome), meaning rejoice in the judgement of Rome that is symbolic for the destruction of the political and economic systems of the world. Chapter 19 (Revelation) leads out in a chorus of the celebration! The front of the chapter describes the obedient people of God in a halel, the Hebrew word that translates to Hallelujah, over the fall of Rome. The back half of chapter 19 transitions to an “end–time” vision of the Second Coming of Christ (Parousia) illustrated by the name(s) of Christ, the battle and judgement, and the cosmic activity.
Revelation 19:6–8 (CSB)
6 Then I heard something like the voice of a vast multitude, like the sound of cascading waters, and like the rumbling of loud thunder, saying,
Hallelujah, because our Lord God, the Almighty, reigns!
7 Let us be glad, rejoice, and give him glory,
because the marriage of the Lamb has come,
and his bride has prepared herself.
8 She was given fine linen to wear, bright and pure.
For the fine linen represents the righteous acts of the saints.
In Rev. 19:8 the people of God are reminded they will receive the gift of pure linen for perseverance in the face of challenge and difficult times. You matter to God, and he has the power to help you (Principle 2)—his victory is your victory—and he will return. By faith in the truth of Christ as the victor in the cosmic battle and his immanent return, his victory becomes your victory. Let this truth be a resource for hope in the moment of challenge you may be experiencing.
