Three Things

The writing journey through Revelation began January 2021 when our meeting and the world were in beginning efforts to normalize post–Covid. Three things that can be offered as a takeaway and application to recovery from our journey may include:

 1.      The “throne motif” is a theme that runs throughout the book of Revelation.

Revelation 12:5 (CSB)

5 She gave birth to a Son, a male who is going to rule all nations with an iron rod. Her child was caught up to God and to his throne.

When the symbol of the throne comes to mind it can lead to a picture of a king that may be sitting on that piece of furniture. The king is enthroned over a group of people in a positive sense holding the assets of power, control, presence, authority, judgement, responsibility, counselor, intercessor, and in general a protector and promoter of the people in their charge. By reading Revelation we learn Christ is the one on the throne, and that is a convincing presence of security.

2.      Progressively John—the author of Revelation—reminds us that Christ is the First and Last.

Revelation 22:13 (CSB)

13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.

If you read Rev. 1:8, then Rev. 1:17, then Rev. 21:6, you will find alternating statements between God and Christ that teach Christ is God and he was present with the Father prior to creation and will be with his children to the end of time. Because he created you, he knows what you are going through, and how to help you recover.

3.      Rev. 4:1–5:14 is commonly referred to as “The Throne Room Vision,”

Revelation 4:2 (CSB)

2 Immediately I was in the Spirit, and there was a throne in heaven and someone was seated on it.

The vision of the Throne Room emphasizes the “Godliness of God,” meaning his otherworldliness, his holiness, and he is distinct from his creation. Most importantly—after a close reading—it is also informing of Christ as equal to God, Christ is God.

So, we close appropriately with another statement of Principle 2;

“Earnestly believe God exists, that I matter to him, and that he has the power to help me Recover.”
