Pay Attention…

With perseverance under challenge comes victory and in recovery this is a message of hope. Much of the walk in recovery is just that, a walk, one step at a time—the victories come with incremental growth and change. Chapter 2 in Hebrews opens with the first of five warning passages [v. 1–4] the author provides throughout the letter (2:1–4; 3:12–13; 6:4–8; 10:26–31; 12:25–29). The message is to remember what we have heard (v. 1) and do not neglect the salvation that the Son offers (v .3). 

 The author says, “pay attention,” 

 

Hebrews 2:1 (CSB)  

1 For this reason, we must pay attention all the more to what we have heard, so that we will not drift away.  

 

Pay attention to the truth of the Gospel. 

 The Incarnate Son came as a man to be “crushed” for our benefit. The Lords pleasure would be accomplished through the redeeming work of Christ at the Cross when God gave him the grim iquiqueites, the haughty in speech, the darkness of death, and “counted him a rebel” (Isa. 53:10–12). Yet his suffering—and crucifixion—resulted in our exaltation, 

 

Hebrews 2:14–15 (CSB)  

14 Now since the children have flesh and blood in common, Jesus also shared in these, so that through his death he might destroy the one holding the power of death—that is, the devil—15 and free those who were held in slavery all their lives by the fear of death.
